No. 8, Three Musicians

This arrangement of three seated Green Men, who are appropriated from Marko Djurica's portraits, is mashed with Pablo Picasso's painting, Three Musicians (1921), in which the figures are masked and the representation of a dog is positioned in the left area of the composition. Both these details are visually referenced in Djurica's portraits of the eastern Ukrainian separatists. So, the Green Men series adheres to one of the most renowned dictums in contemporary art, pronounced by Jasper Johns, to "take an object (i.e., reproduction of Picasso's painting), do something to it (i.e., switch out the masks and dog), and do something else" (i.e., insert the plush, yellow chairs from Djurica's portraits).
