No. 6, Green Man on His Imperial Throne

This montage combines Marko Djurica's portrait of a masked Green Man with the French Neoclassical painting, Napoleon on His Imperial Throne (1806) by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, which represents the autocratic ruler whose ideological upheaval of democratic values included a disastrous military campaign that pushed east to Moscow. Here the eastern Ukrainian's masked face and the strictly frontal seated pose, which is reminiscent of Ancient Greek and Christian icon imagery, conflates Putin's militarist ambition with his penchant to pander to the Russian Orthodox Church during a time of national instability.
