No. 4, Portrait of a Green Man
This montage combines Marko Djurica's portrait of a Ukrainian separatist with the Mannerist period painting Portrait of a Cardinal (c. 1600) by El Greco, which depicts an official of the Spanish Inquisition within an ornate setting where the perspective on the floor tiling is skewed to symbolize Europe's instability. The correspondence that has fallen to the cardinal's feet implies bad news on the war front during the military conflict that engulfed Europe during the Counter Reformation. This can be understood as a visual equivalent to the futility of the Russian Federation's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
