No. 5, The Illegal Operation

The title refers to Putin's doublespeak that the Russian Federation invasion of Ukraine is a "special military operation". The imagery combines Marko Djurica's portrait of a Green Man with an installation, 

The Illegal Operation (1962) created by Edward Kienholz, whose setting is littered with filthy, found objects in reference to the controversial subject of reproductive rights. When Kienholz created the installation, the procedure to terminate a pregnancy was often in dangerous and unregulated conditions. Now, as of June 2022, in the United States with the recent ruling by the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade, the battle for a woman's autonomy from dictates by the state are, again, 

front and center.
